Solar Power Brings Water and Light
Solar panels are essential to student success at Nianjema. The campus community transformed with the addition of solar panels to the large central Dining Hall. Students can now study at night in groups as well as eat in a lighted hall during the rainy season.
Students and faculty from Egaa, Nianjema’s Danish partnership school, worked with Nianjema students and staff on joint projects in January. Egaa provided funding to purchase and install a solar water pump. The project was a great learning experience for all and is now producing a reliable source of water. Before the pump, the school experienced almost daily outages due to loss of electricity on the town grid.
Adding additional panels to school dormitories, the library and buildings throughout the campus is a key fund raising goal. Interested in helping? Click here to see how.
